Far Infrared Therapy for Lyme Disease
More than 30,000 Americans contract Lyme disease each year. Lyme disease – caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi and other species – is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected blacklegged or deer ticks, and can result in lifelong debilitating effects such:
- Arthritis
- Fatigue
- Neurological deficits
Sweating while in the infrared sauna flushes fat-soluble toxins (including heavy metals) out of the body via the skin.
Numerous scientific findings support the efficacy of hyperthermia for the treatment of Lyme disease, and its symptoms. Persistence of tissue spirochetes of Borrelia burgdorferi as helices and round bodies (RBs) explains many erythema-Lyme disease symptoms, however, studies suggest that the Lyme spirochete appear to be very heat sensitive.
Mucos-like biofilms form in the body to protect Lyme-causing bacteria. You can think of trying to get rid of them like trying to rinse your dishes clean in the sink when they are covered with dirty, soapy water.
Far infrared heat helps to penetrate this film, and break down pathogens like Borrelia burgdorferi.
Another way FIR heat helps people who suffer from Lyme disease is by decreasing toxic build-up – literally washing the cells clean. Lyme sufferers have an increased risk of toxic build up. Toxins caused specifically by dead spirochetes flood their bodies once they [the spirochetes] are killed. Passive or non-aggressive detox methods can leave these dead spirochetes in the body, causing overwhelm of the detoxifying organs.
The dry heat of a far infrared session can promote detoxification while also lessening the Herxheimer reactions (healing crises) of such detoxification.
Far infrared treatments are also much more effective for detoxing those with Lyme disease because – as opposed to just a regular sauna – the dry heat from the far infrared light spectrum penetrates much more deeply into organs and tissues.
Not to mention, the detoxification levels reached after just one session of far infrared is as much as 3 times that received by sitting in a traditional sauna.
Don’t be surprised if during or after a far infrared session you smell ammonia. This is a well-known neurotoxin released by Borrelia burgdorferi which causes Lyme disease.
Finally, far infrared heat can supply the body with a much needed energy boost. Many people suffering from Lyme disease find that they have extremely low energy levels as the immune system tries to fight the offending Borrelia burgdorferi which have taken it over. We typically see food as our only energy source, but we actually extract light from the food we eat and our bodies turn this into useable energy. Far infrared provides this energy in a bioavailable form.
Because far infrared, or hyperthermia can be so effective in treating Lyme disease, it is suggested that you begin with sessions very slowly and monitor how the body handles such significant detoxification. Make no mistake, though, this protocol can greatly speed the healing process for those suffering from Lyme disease.
