Time for Yourself

I often hear people say, “I don't have time for myself.” But when that time finally becomes available, they may not know what to do with it.

Then, what does “time for myself” really mean?

You may think about it in terms of how much free time you have. But perhaps it is not simply about the amount of time. More importantly, it is about the quality of the time you spend getting in touch with yourself.

We naturally devote our time and energy to work, family, friends, errands, and other responsibilities that keep our life going. A substantial amount of our time may be spent doing what we need to do and what we believe is important.

Turning Our Attention Inward

Getting in touch with ourselves means turning our attention inward, rather than directing it toward what is happening around us.

When we turn our attention inward, we can become aware of what is happening within us—not only through our thoughts, but also through our body, emotions, and deeper sense of self. It gives us an opportunity to experience our whole being, rather than living primarily through the activity of the mind.

Why Inner Connection Matters

But why is this so important?

We may often forget that life is not only about what we do for ourselves and others. It is also about how we experience ourselves as a whole—our body, our mind, our emotions, and beyond. Many of us may be unfamiliar with this experience, yet this inner connection can be a missing piece in our approach to healing, wellness, and longevity.

For instance, how can you maintain your health despite the demands of a highly stressful job? Other than releasing physical tension through exercise, massage, acupuncture, or other appropriate modalities, our relationship with stress can also change when we establish this inner connection. Instead of allowing stress to control us, we can begin to relate to it differently.

Creating Space Within

In our modern lifestyle, it may be rare for us to spend time turning our attention inward. Generally, this does not happen unless we intentionally make space for it. We need to create the environment that allows us to do so.

One of the best ways to do this is through silent meditation, allowing the mind to become quiet and creating a safe and quiet space within. From this quiet space, we can begin to reconnect with ourselves.

Silent meditation is a practice that can be learned. This month, I will be offering Meditation Seminar Level 1 for those who would like to learn how to turn their attention inward through silent meditation and practice it together.

Meditation Seminar Level 1 with Master Mika

In this seminar, we will take time to step away from the usual activity of everyday life and practice connecting with ourselves within. You will have an opportunity to learn how to quiet the mind and gradually become more familiar with the quiet space within.

During this small-group seminar, we will explore and practice:

  • Four techniques for quieting the mind

  • Fundamental skills for practicing silent meditation

  • Ways to cultivate a safe and quiet space within

  • How to establish a regular meditation practice

The seminar is designed as a small-group, interactive, one-day training, where you will have the opportunity to ask questions, practice together, and receive my personal guidance along the way.

By the end of the seminar, you will have the foundation you need to begin your own meditation practice.
