The Answer You Won't Find by Searching Harder: A Story of a Patient with Fibromyalgia

Something Missing in the Mainstream

Recently, I’ve been noticing something when I watch health content online.

Many brilliant experts upload unique insights, comment on recent research developments, and conduct real interviews with real substance.

So much good information — and yet, so often, I feel something missing in the mainstream posts.

A feeling I only recognize once I step back a little from the search.

What Searching Gives Us

Searching online has its place. A lady tells me she finds all her health information on TikTok — short, quick, easy to absorb between everything else in her day.

Another researches everything herself, digging deep into studies and forums, trying to find what natural supplements will actually work for her condition.

Staying informed, staying updated — this matters. Many people do, so do I.

But here is the gap I’ve come to see as a practitioner.

Searching is a way of “zooming in” on something you care about.

You look closer and closer at one question, one symptom, one condition, hoping the answer will surface if you just look hard enough.

What Searching Can’t Give Us

What search can’t give you is the other side of it — the picture you gain when you “zoom out.”

Stepping back far enough to see the whole picture.

Not just this symptom, but how other dots are connected to shape your health.

But when we are zoomed in, many of those links are invisible.

Zoom Out, Look Within

This contemplation brought me back to something I’d already written — an article I published a while back on Substack.

It was about the importance of turning inward, of cultivating our inner world rather than only focusing on information gathered from the external.

That piece was about finding inner peace.

What I’m sharing with you here is an extension of that similar message — applied to finding the vital piece of healing information within.

A Patient with Fibromyalgia Who Did Everything Right

Let me share a story that shows this clearly.

A patient of mine had lived with fibromyalgia pain for years.

She was one of the most health-conscious people I’ve worked with — she preferred natural treatment, and she did her research.

She learned which supplements and herbs might help her condition, and for a while, they did.

Then, slowly, they stopped working.

This is what brought her to my care.

She had done everything she could on her own.

She had zoomed in, again and again, searching for effective supplements for her pain, hoping they would help her feel better for the long term.

And for a while, it did help. But it was not enough to hold.

Zooming Out to See Clearly

Working together, we took a different approach.

First, we stepped back from the supplements themselves.

She had been taking a great deal, for a long time, without much of a break.

She agreed to pause many of them except what was absolutely essential.

Instead, she focused on helping her body detoxify — supporting the organs that had been working hard to process everything she had been taking in.

Yes, her body needed a break.

Then we looked further out, beyond the physical layer alone.

We discussed her life — not just her pain. What I found was stress she had been carrying, and dismissing, for years.

A difficult career situation. A personal relationship in transition. Family and cultural pressures she rarely spoke about.

None of this had been part of her search online. None of it shows up when you look for the right supplement.

Pain Alleviated from Within

In fact, it was not only about addressing the constant, accumulated stress of many years.

It was the awareness of the connection between her emotional stress and her physical pain.

For her, this awareness was the key to alleviating her pain.

She needed to recognize her own suffering and do something about it, instead of dismissing or ignoring it for the sake of something else.

Once we addressed and healed this root together, her pain began to change.

It dropped from a level nine, most days, down to a one or two.

She began to enjoy her life again, even while many aspects of her life were still a work in progress.

Coming Back to Herself

The shift wasn’t only physical.

Before this awareness emerged, she had been paying attention to the symptom alone, in front of her.

When the pain came back, she took more natural supplements to manage it.

If they didn’t work, she replaced them with something new.

Once she learned to zoom out, she became more attuned to herself.

She started to notice a pattern — her pain would rise when she was emotionally upset — a connection she had never made before.

Now, she manages her pain by relying far less on supplements, and more on a growing awareness of her stress level and emotions.

She began taking care of her stress with a variety of new activities.

As a result, she gained more confidence in everyday life, including her personal relationships and her decision-making.

And her outlook began to shift, too — from fear and anxiety, to something steadier and more positive.

I was convinced that this was her true self, finally returning to her after years of suffering.

What True Healing Looks Like

Her story is not unusual. I see similar stories very often — people doing everything right, searching hard, and still not finding what they need.

What she needed wasn’t one more supplement, or one more piece of information.

It was the courage to step back, finally look at her whole life, and give love and support to it — her pain was the consequence of the absence of that care.

That is what zooming out means, in practice. Not gathering more, but seeing more.

Not one more answer from the outside, but recognizing the one already sitting quietly within you, waiting to be noticed.

She found this. And it changed everything for her — not because she searched harder, but because she finally looked inward and found her answer.

What we often most need is the awareness and courage to listen to our own story. This action is true healing.
